Celebrate You!

Many of you personally emailed me to tell me how the “When Numbers and Devices are No Longer Helpful” blog resonated with you and how you were going to let go of some of the grip numbers have had. One reader even shared how they had let themselves start to de-rail (fall into maladaptive behaviors), simply because they allowed the scale to tell them they weren’t good enough!

I say ENOUGH to that! Stop handing over your power!!

That same person then began to speak on how they decided to shift their thought process after reading the blog. They personally made lists of their accomplishments. They made lists of different choices that they’ve made in the recent past versus choosing the same maladaptive behaviors. They reminded themselves of how far they have come and they finally CELEBRATED what that actually meant!

Amen Friend! Amen!!!

Now that’s what I’m talking about! How often are we celebrating ourselves about what is going well? How often do we make sure that we notice ourselves in our moment by moment, daily or weekly efforts to take care of ourselves and to make our health and sanity a priority? Celebrate yourself often if not daily!!

Doing the work to take care of yourself differently than you have in the past is really hard. Change can feel hard.  It takes rewiring your brain and that brain loves the pathway that has been made decades ago. It loves the easy way because the brain gets overwhelmed too, especially in times of heightened stress. But every time we celebrate ourselves, we are actually enhancing that new track. We create a little boost that tells the brain, oh, wait, this is the right track now, this behavior is helping us feel the way that we have wanted to feel.

Don’t wait till “the end” of a goal etc. First, the “end” likely never comes, it just evolves as our values and lives change. Being present to the wins now, no matter how minimal, is what keeps us making those types of choices day in and day out.

What are some ways you can celebrate and be seen by you?

  • Make lists of changes you’ve already made. Changes that have stuck and changes that are getting there.
  • Remind yourself of the hurdles you have already overcome. What have you been incorporating consistently that you haven’t ever done before?
  • What is changing because of these habits? It may not always be physical. Whats happening to your mental health, what about your confidence? How about your physical environment? Or even your sleep?

Celebrate You! Notice your wins. Notice what you are committing too and don’t even realize that you are because it really does mean that much to you. Make sure you notice!

Kudos to choosing to take care of you. When you do, it affects everyone around you and inspires others as well! Way to go!
